Personal Behaviour Model (Health Model) The health belief model assumes that people will take action if they believe that they a health deterioration can be avoided, therefore making themselves healthier by their own definition. Kasl and Cobb (1966) explain three categories; Preventative health behaviour, illness behaviour and sick-role behaviour.
According to World Health Organisation (WHO, 1974) health is defined as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. However, this definition is criticised by many people due to its subjective nature and the problems in the definition of health.
The aim of this essay will be to define health assessment, outline some of its major components and discuss the purposes of health assessment from a nursing perspective.
